That’s less than 72 Days to:*

1. Call the guy that has the camera that would be totally awesome to use.
2. Call the girl that’s a whiz at editing.
3. Hire the make-up effects artist that will transform your sister into a zombie werewolf (should the criteria call for such a thing).
4. Figure out how to make 6 dollars a day feed a team of 8. (it WILL be done!)
5. Stare in mirror for 40 minutes a day and practice how you can forcefully get actors to do what you need while making them think they are the ones with the talent.
6. Audition said actors for roles that don’t exist yet.
7. With the confidence of an Ox, Register on 72Fest.com. Use a dominant team name ( that will make others Cower in Fear) but write the bio with a hint of humor in an attempt to show the world that you don’t really take it THAT seriously.
8. Whip out your credit card (yes the Snoopy one) and punch those digits in hard and smile as you hit “Enter”.
9. Assemble the team for a quick Photo to put onto 72Fest.com. Try not to pay any attention to the mouthy gaffer that says you better have good food this time. Remind the rest of the crew that sometimes you truly need to take 14 hours to get 3 shots.
10. Rewatch every short film you’ve ever made, reminding yourself that the reason you grimace is because you are growing as an artist.  The more grimaces that are induced just means you’ve grown that much more. Right. Right?
11. Make list after list of everything you want, and take days and days to pare it down to only what you need.
12. As nervousness sets in, twist the arms of family members to commit the first weekend in October to you just in case you need them.
13. When Doubt starts, give your easily excitable hermit friend twenty bucks to write a broad script that would fit just about any criteria you pull out at launch night.**
14. Wake up in cold night sweats when you realize that people expect something more out of you this year than last.
15. Make appointment with therapist.
16. Tell all of your actors that in fact they WILL be the glue to the movie, because the truth is they were the only part about your last few movies that didn’t make you cringe.
17. Admit you are beginning to have a nervous breakdown. Only then will you work through it.
18. Overcompensate your insecurity with witty banter at the expense of other teams that are registered.
19. Try to sleep as much as possible before the fest, so you can be fresh. Watching twenty hours of TV is “research” not “depression”.
20. Realize that there is no turning back, and that at the very least, it’s a fun time and you’ll have a movie at the end of the weekend.
21. With less pressure now- Walk into the Launch Party confident once again with your posse at your back.

So you’re on the registration page for the 5th Annual 72 Film Fest.

That means one of 3 things:

1) You are a returning team with your eyes set on the “Best of the Fest”.
2) You’ve come to this thing for a few years, and you think you got what it takes.
3) You are just looking for an awesome way to spend a couple weekends making movies and watching em on the big screen.

Any which way- 72 Film Fest welcomes you and the talented folks you are gathering to be a part of your team.

If you’re on the fence you might be asking yourself:  ”Every year 72 keeps growing. Is this year gonna be bigger, faster, stronger?” And the answer is an ABSOLUTELY maybe. The truth of the matter is it all depends on YOU filmmaker-people-types. Without you, we are just a couple guys standing around with our laptops (truthfully we have much higher opinions of ourselves than that but we read somewhere self-demeaning humor is the easiest way to be endearing). The way this whole thing works is: The more teams that pre-register, the bigger show we can produce.

What does your registration fee get you?

1. Your movie will screen at the Historic Weinberg Center in front of a packed audience on Friday October 8th.  Judge and Audience Favorites will move on to Saturday October 9th. (Priceless)
2. Two T-Shirts (Choose sizes below) ($20 Value)
3. Two Tickets to Friday Night’s Event. ($20 Value). If you move on to the Finalist Round you will receive another 2 Tickets.
4. Register within first 72 Hours of Registration being open (June 1st to June 3rd) You will also receive one extra Two Day Ticket. ($20 Value)
5. Your Team Name, Bio, Picture and Website link will be included on our 2010 Team Page.  Great Exposure!

“PRO“: ANY member of your team has been an employee or owner of a company involved in video production, filmmaking, editing, classroom or workshop instruction, etc. If you have a question here, you are probably “Pro” in our eyes, but feel free to ask.
“AMATEUR“: Everyone else.
