72 Fest was founded with the introduction of the 72 Film Fest in 2006 by Jason Streff, Clark Kline, and Salyer McLaughlin. The 72 Film Fest is an annual contest in Frederick, MD that inspires and challenges filmmakers from the Mid-Atlantic region (MD,DC,PA,VA,WVA,DE etc) to create a short film within 72 hours. In 2008, the 72 Fest has expanded outside the peripherals of film and into the exciting world of the stage with its first annual 72 Play Fest.

THE 72 FILM FEST FOUNDERS:

Clark Kline is a writer/director/editor and half of Fool Martyr Productions. In recent years, he has worked on various feature films, commercials and theatrical trailers. Since last year’s fest, Kline says he’s been plugging away on a couple screenplays, working on a television pilot with Mikael Johnson called “The Hill“.

Jason Streff, at a quarter of a century old, is the youngest of the founders. He became interested in film and filmmaking during high school, and has remained so ever since. Jason has directed and produced a number of short films. He is currently most interested in photography, research writing, and quasi-documentary/non-fiction filmmaking. Although he passes the day as a software engineer and student, he remains active in the independent film scene. He is the founder of Pigeonhole Pictures, and some of his works can be found at that website or his personal site.

Salyer McLaughlin has been creating, writing, directing, producing, filming and editing award-winning video and film for more than 20 years in Los Angeles and Frederick/DC Metro Area. From the production of TV commercials to television Talk Shows, from the theatrical release of his PSA’s to web integrated video, he has been a Pioneer. Salyer has also been responsible for launching high profile media campaigns to promote numerous environmental and social causes. The results of these efforts have not only changed the course of U.S. politics, but their imagination and inspiration have garnered Salyer world-wide press including two appearances on ABC World News with Peter Jennings, the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, CNN Crossfire, as well as feature articles in Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Hollywood Reporter and Ad Week to name a few. And is one of the Festival’s three founders.

So you’re on the registration page for the 5th Annual 72 Film Fest.

That means one of 3 things:

1) You are a returning team with your eyes set on the “Best of the Fest”.
2) You’ve come to this thing for a few years, and you think you got what it takes.
3) You are just looking for an awesome way to spend a couple weekends making movies and watching em on the big screen.

Any which way- 72 Film Fest welcomes you and the talented folks you are gathering to be a part of your team.

So you might be asking yourself:  ”Every year 72 keeps growing. Is this year gonna be bigger, faster, stronger?” And the answer is an ABSOLUTELY maybe. The truth of the matter is it all depends on YOU filmmaker-people-types. Without you, we are just a couple guys standing around with our laptops (truthfully we have much higher opinions of ourselves than that but we read somewhere demeaning humor is the easiest way to be endearing). The way this thing works- The more teams that pre-register, the bigger show we can produce.

What does your registration fee get you?

1. Your movie will screen at the Historic Weinberg Center in front of a packed audience on Friday October 8th.  Judge and Audience Favorites will move on to Saturday October 9th. (Priceless)
2. Two T-Shirts (Choose sizes below) ($20 Value)
3. Two Tickets to Friday Night’s Event. ($20 Value). If you move on to the Finalist Round you will receive another 2 Tickets.
4. Register within first 72 Hours of Registration being open (June 1st to June 3rd) You will also receive one extra Two Day Ticket. ($20 Value)
5. Your Team Name, Bio, Picture and Website link will be included on our 2010 Team Page.  Great Exposure!

Am I Pro, Amateur or Student?

“STUDENT“: EVERY member of your team must be High School, College, or Vocational Student.
“PRO“: ANY member of your team has been an employee or owner of a company involved in video production, filmmaking, editing, classroom or workshop instruction, etc. If you have a question here, you are probably “Pro” in our eyes, but feel free to ask.
“AMATEUR“: Everyone else.
