72 Fest was founded with the introduction of the 72 Film Fest in 2006 by Jason Streff, Clark Kline, Salyer McLaughlin, and Walter Chalkley. It is an annual contest that inspires and challenges dozens of filmmakers from around the region to create a short film within 72 hours.

To bring under-screened and independent films to the people of Frederick, and to provide an outlet for the creative community by hosting challenges in the fields of filmmaking, writing, and other arts.

72 Fest expands with 72 Play Fest 2008, and much more to come in the following years.

Our Mission

The Future

Jason, Clark, and Salyer continue to organize and run the 72 Fest. Their Bios are as follows.

Clark Kline is a writer/director and half of Fool Martyr Productions. Past Projects include co-writing the feature film "Far From India", and creating theatrical trailers for various DC/Baltimore films.  Fool Martyr Production's first feature film "heads or tails", directed with Joey McAdams, will be released on DVD in Fall 2007.  "Anti-Depressant", his first novel, will be published in Spring 2008.  He co-founded 72 Film Fest in 2006 after the previous film festival disbanded leaving a void for local filmmakers.

After attending film school at UCLA he spent several years in Southern California directing television commercials for many national and international clients and managing several independent Production Companies in the process.

Jason Streff, at almost a quarter of a century old, is the youngest of the founders. He became interested in film and filmmaking during high school, and has remained so ever since.Jason has directed and produced a number of short films, and is currently most interested in quasi-documentary/non-fiction filmmaking. Although he works as a software engineer he remains active in the independent film scene.
