CRITERIA (MANDATORY):

You were given a scientific theory/law as well as one interpretation/summation of that theory/law.

CHALLENGE (OPTIONAL):

You are challenged (although it is not mandatory) to make a film that incorporates these concepts into a film that directly deals with Science or Science Fiction.  The Best Use of Challenge will receive a 24”x36” 2013 Poster signed by all the participating teams. Only 3 of these special edition posters are produced each year.

HOW TO ADAPT:

Make a narrative that incorporates the scientific theory, law or principle that your team has selected.  Look up the theory/law, learn more about it and be inspired by it.  If you’re stumped try approaching it from a different perspective, perhaps thinking of the law on a character’s emotional level.  If you’re about to give up, or are pitifully lazy, maybe our interpretation/summation can prod your imagination.  The judges reward originality so avoid the obvious.

Although your interpretation of the theory/law should NOT be literal, it should be clear to the judges that your film is indeed inspired by the criteria.  Feel free to explain your interpretation on the entry form.

EXAMPLES OF WHAT NOT TO DO:

Adapt the scientist/inventor’s life.
Show the historical discovery of the theory.
Do an instructional video of the theory.

CAN I JUST MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT WHATEVER AND JUST MENTION THE THEORY?

A:  No. We want to see an interpretation of the theory/law or fundamental principles behind the theory/law.  Simply mentioning the theory/law in a film that has no other connection will disqualify your film for awards.

MY CRITERIA IS REALLY HARD.  I MEAN I CAN BARELY UNDERSTAND IT, HOW AM I GONNA MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THIS THING. YOU GUYS SUCK.

A:   We understand you may think you have pulled the toughest criteria on the board. I can assure you there is another team out there thinking the same thing and only one of you can be right.  But you’re probably both wrong.  It’s probably a scientific fact and stuff.  A movie can be made of any of the criteria on the board. Use the law/theory as a springboard. Look it up, break it down, discuss it with the rest of your team. There is a story in there.  Find it.
